KATAHDIN CEDAR LOG HOMES & CONSTRUCTION
Three key facts make Katahdin’s superiority over pine and other cedar log home manufactures.
Fact # 1 – Cedar is far superior to pine for log homes. Pine has a much higher moisture content, even after construction – so pine logs are more apt to split and crack. Cedar outperforms pine in R-value and Thermal Mass Factor too. And unlike cedar, pine logs have little natural resistance to insects and rot, giving cedar a useful life about 8 times longer than pine.
Fact
#2 – Katahdin Northern White Cedar Log Homes outperform other
cedar log homes. Katahdin offers more design choices – with rounded
purlins, rafters, ceiling joists, railings and balusters. More options –
with our unique full log wall insulation package, and hand-peeled exterior
logs – both at no additional cost. Also Katahdin is the only major cedar
log home company that pre-drills for lag screws – for faster, more precise
construction and airtight fit.
“Full-Log Wall With Insulation Package – At NO Extra Cost”
Only Katahdin offers the unique option of a full log wall with an insulation package. It means authentic, natural whole-log beauty – at no additional cost.
An interesting bit of information gleaned from one of our most recent log home clients, whose cedar log home we (Woodstock Valley Enterprises, LLC) just completed building: Insurance coverage was easier to obtain & premiums quite reasonable because of having installed Katahdin’s insulation package. The insurance company reasoned – that in case of a fire - the T & G, along with the rigid insulation would offer greater protection of the “full-log wall” – with probably only the interior T & G needing replacement – costing significantly less money, time & labor to replace. Another added benefit to choosing Katahdin as your Cedar Log Home Company!!!!
Fact #3 – Katahdin costs less than competitors year after year. Katahdin is unique among cedar log home manufacturers because it uses the entire cedar log. Thus, Katahdin is more economical than other cedar manufacturers – our package prices prove it.
“Conservation Minded”
The vision & foresight of David Gordon, President of Katahdin Cedar Log Homes (also son of it’s founder, Foster Gordon) has done much to not only develop the finest cedar log home company available – but he has established a commitment to preserve & fully utilize the whole cedar log. Such innovative development is evidence that conservation is one of the top priorities of Katahdin.
After the logs are milled and paneling and lumber is finished, what does Katahdin do with the “waste?” GLAD YOU ASKED!!! Rejected logs, sawdust, shavings, bark, slabs, and short pieces never go to waste. Cedar regenerates in abundance in our rich northern forests, and although it is a renewable resource, it doesn’t make sense to let unused materials become mountains of debris.
This wonderfully versatile wood, in the hands of Katahdin woodworkers, becomes several different types of fencing including post, rail, and stockade. The smallest pieces are used to make window boxes, planter boxes, children’s playground components and exterior tables and chairs. The sawdust, shavings and bark are ground into a fine mixture and colored to make landscape mulch.
